Launch of WRTI Strategic Plan (2023-2027) Event brief
The launch of the Strategic Plan (2023-2027) and the National Wildlife Training Agenda 2023-2033 is scheduled for October 9, 2024 and will be presided over by CS Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Hon Rebecca Miano. PS State Department for Wildlife Silvia Museiya will also be in attendance.
The reviewed Strategic Plan was informed by the need to conform with Government’s guidelines on formulation of the 5th generation Strategic Plans. Further, need for the Institute to align to national priorities and frameworks (Kenya Vision 2030 and BETA).
The Strategic Plan (2023-2027) outlines key strategies that will guide the Institute in addressing critical aspects of its mandate to advance wildlife research, conservation, and management. The plan highlights the institute’s goals in promoting sustainable wildlife policies, enhancing research capacities, and fostering community-based conservation efforts. This strategic direction will empower the Institute to safeguard Kenya’s rich biodiversity and support long-term wildlife management initiatives.
Further, the Strategic Plan will be a blueprint to guide the Institute in providing solutions to the challenges facing wildlife conservation; such as biodiversity loss, human-wildlife conflicts, poaching, and the impacts of climate change.
The bold vision of this Strategic Plan which is ‘A globally competitive wildlife research and training centre’ is a reaffirmation of the commitment by the Institute in line with Kenya Kwanza Government and the Ministry in firmly entrenching a science-driven approach to conservation.
The National Wildlife Training Agenda will focus on capacity building for all stakeholders—from the youth to policymakers—setting the stage for equipping of a skilled workforce to meet both current and future conservation challenges. This will enable Kenya to uphold its commitment to international wildlife protocols and conventions, reinforcing our leadership in global conservation efforts.
